Spiced Orange Candied Walnuts

Ingredients

2 cups walnut halves and pieces
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
3. Add walnuts to the saucepan and stir to coat them evenly with the sugar mixture.
4. Add butter to the pan, stirring until it is melted and fully incorporated.
5. Spread the walnut mixture in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to ensure even coating and prevent sticking.
7. Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet. The walnuts will become crisp as they cool.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
