Ingredients
1 sheet of puff pastry
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
Pinch of salt
4 large egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Thaw the puff pastry as per package instructions, then cut into 3x3 inch squares.
3. Arrange squares on the baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
4. In a saucepan, heat milk over medium heat until steaming.
5. In a bowl, whisk sugar, flour, salt, and egg yolks until smooth.
6. Gradually add hot milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
7. Return mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
8. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter.
9. Let custard cool to room temperature.
10. Once pastries are cooled, slice in half and pipe custard into the center.
11. Dust with powdered sugar and serve.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating
To reheat, warm in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes or until slightly warm.
