Traditional Slow-Cooked Brisket

Ingredients

4 lbs beef brisket
3 tbsp olive oil
2 large onions, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup red wine
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
2 bay leaves

Instructions

1. Season the brisket with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika.
2. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the brisket on all sides until browned.
3. Remove brisket and place in the slow cooker.
4. In the same pan, add sliced onions and garlic, sauté until onions are golden brown.
5. Add tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, and Worcestershire sauce to the pan; stir and bring to a simmer.
6. Pour the mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker, ensuring it is well coated.
7. Add bay leaves to the slow cooker.
8. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the brisket is fork-tender.
9. Remove bay leaves before serving.

Storage

Store cooled brisket in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheating

Reheat gently in a skillet over medium heat or in the microwave until warmed through.
