Traditional Baked Ziti with Italian Sausage

Ingredients
1 lb ziti pasta
1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
2 cups marinara sauce
1 cup ricotta cheese
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
4. Add Italian sausage to the pan, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned.
5. Stir in the marinara sauce and let simmer for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
6. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked ziti, sausage sauce, ricotta, and half of the mozzarella cheese.
7. Transfer the mixture to a 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
9. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the ziti in an oven-safe dish and cover with foil. Reheat for 15-20 minutes until warmed through.
