Traditional Applesauce

Ingredients
4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and quartered
1 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar (optional)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
1. Combine apples and water in a large pot. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
2. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender, about 20 minutes.
3. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Continue to cook for 5 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
5. Mash with a potato masher to desired consistency or blend for a smoother texture.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
Reheating
Serve cold or gently reheat in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through.
