Sweetened Condensed Milk Redux

A homemade twist on the classic sweetened condensed milk with a hint of vanilla, perfect for baking and beverages, offering a creamy and rich texture that enhances any dessert.

Ingredients

2 cups whole milk
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/8 tsp salt

Instructions

1. In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and granulated sugar.
2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
3. Add the unsalted butter and continue to stir until melted.
4. Maintain a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally, for about 45 minutes, or until the mixture is reduced by half.
5. Once reduced, remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
6. Allow the mixture to cool before transferring to a glass jar.

Storage

Store the sweetened condensed milk in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Reheating

Allow the sweetened condensed milk to come to room temperature or gently warm it in a saucepan before using.
