Spiced Crockpot Apple Butter

Ingredients
4 lbs apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Place the peeled, cored, and sliced apples into the crockpot.
2. In a separate bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, and salt.
3. Pour the sugar-spice mixture over the apples and toss to coat evenly.
4. Cover and cook on low for 10 hours, stirring every couple of hours, until the apples are very soft and dark brown.
5. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture until smooth. Alternatively, transfer to a countertop blender and blend in batches.
6. Stir in the vanilla extract and cook uncovered on low for an additional 2 hours, or until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency.
Storage
Store the apple butter in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
Reheating
To reheat, warm gently in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.
