Spiced Citrus Mulled Wine

Ingredients

1 bottle red wine
1/2 cup brandy
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1/4 cup honey
4 whole cloves
3 cinnamon sticks
2 star anise
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cranberries
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

1. In a large pot, combine the red wine and brandy. Heat over medium-low, making sure not to boil.
2. Add the sliced orange and lemon, honey, cloves, cinnamon sticks, star anise, nutmeg, and brown sugar to the pot.
3. Stir gently to combine and simmer on low heat for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
4. Add cranberries and vanilla extract, and continue to simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
5. Remove from heat and strain the mixture to remove solids.
6. Serve warm in mugs, garnished with a slice of orange or cinnamon stick if desired.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat gently over low heat in a saucepan until warm. Do not boil.
