Ingredients

4 large baking apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup raisins
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup apple cider or water

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Core the apples, leaving the bottom intact to create a well for the filling.
3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, walnuts, and raisins.
4. Spoon the mixture into the hollowed-out apples, packing it tightly.
5. Top each apple with a piece of butter and place them in a baking dish.
6. Pour the apple cider or water into the bottom of the baking dish.
7. Bake the apples in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until tender.
8. Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
