Japanese Sushi

Ingredients

Sushi rice 2 cups
Rice vinegar 1/4 cup
Sugar 2 tbsp
Salt 1 tsp
Nori seaweed sheets 5
Fresh salmon 1/2 lb
Fresh tuna 1/2 lb
Cucumber 1, julienned
Avocado 1, sliced
Soy sauce for serving
Wasabi for serving
Pickled ginger for serving

Instructions

1. Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. Cook the rice according to the package instructions.
3. In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt over low heat until dissolved.
4. Once the rice is cooked, transfer to a wooden or plastic container and gently fold in the vinegar mixture while fanning the rice to cool it down quickly.
5. Lay out a bamboo sushi mat and place a sheet of nori on top.
6. Spread a thin layer of rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.
7. Arrange slices of salmon, tuna, cucumber, and avocado on the rice.
8. Roll the sushi tightly using the bamboo mat, pressing gently to seal.
9. Slice the sushi roll into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife dipped in water.
10. Repeat the process with remaining ingredients.
11. Serve the sushi with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

Storage

Store sushi in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Reheating

Enjoy sushi cold; reheating is not recommended.
