1 prime rib roast (5 pounds)
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, chopped
2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
2. In a bowl, mix the softened butter, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, salt, black pepper, and onion powder until well combined.
3. Pat the prime rib roast dry with paper towels and rub the olive oil over the entire surface.
4. Spread the herbed garlic butter mixture evenly over the roast, ensuring full coverage.
5. Place the roast in a roasting pan with a rack and insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the roast.
6. Roast in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (165°C) and continue roasting for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches your desired level of doneness.
7. Once done, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
