Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
3. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined.
4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
