Traditional Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Ingredients

1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 cup red wine (optional)
1/2 cup water
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 lb spaghetti, cooked according to package instructions

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef; sauté until the onion is translucent.
3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
4. Pour in red wine (if using) and water, and add sugar. Stir to combine.
5. Reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and let the sauce simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Serve sauce over prepared spaghetti and garnish with grated Parmesan cheese.

Storage

Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Reheating

Reheat sauce on the stove over low heat or in the microwave until heated through.
