Traditional Southern Peach Cobbler

Ingredients

4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 tbsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Melt butter in a 9x13 inch baking dish by placing it in the oven while it preheats.
3. In a large bowl, combine sliced peaches, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Stir to combine and set aside.
4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, remaining 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
5. Gradually add milk to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
6. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish without stirring.
7. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Do not stir.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40-45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the edges are bubbling.
9. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Storage

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

To reheat, place a portion in the microwave for 30-45 seconds or warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10-15 minutes until heated through.
