Traditional Oven-Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
3 cups milk
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 2-quart baking dish.
2. Cook the macaroni in a large pot of boiling salted water until tender but firm, about 8 minutes. Drain.
3. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and stir in the flour. Cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until smooth and bubbly.
4. Gradually whisk in the milk, then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 5 minutes.
5. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar and Parmesan cheeses until melted and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
6. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and mix well.
7. Pour the macaroni and cheese into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
8. Bake in preheated oven until golden brown and bubbling, about 20-25 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes, or until heated through.
