Traditional Herb Bread Stuffing

Ingredients

12 cups cubed day-old bread
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups chopped yellow onions
1 cup chopped celery
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
2 large eggs, beaten

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish.
2. Spread the cubed bread on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and saute the onions and celery until soft, about 10 minutes.
4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread, cooked vegetables, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, and parsley.
5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the broth and eggs, then pour over the bread mixture and toss to combine evenly.
6. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and cover with foil.
7. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
8. Serve warm as a delicious side dish.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C) and heat the stuffing in a covered dish for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
