Traditional Cream Puffs

Ingredients

1 cup water
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 large eggs
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla extract
Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a saucepan, bring water, butter, and salt to a boil.
3. Add flour and stir vigorously until mixture forms a ball.
4. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 minutes.
5. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until smooth and shiny.
6. Spoon or pipe onto baking sheet.
7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
8. Cool completely on a wire rack.
9. For filling, whip heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
10. Slice puffs open, fill with cream, and dust with powdered sugar.

Storage

Store assembled cream puffs in the refrigerator for up to 2 days in an airtight container.

Reheating

Reheat unfilled shells in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes to crisp them up.
