Traditional Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients

1 lb fresh cranberries
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
Zest of one orange, finely grated

Instructions

1. Rinse the cranberries thoroughly and discard any that are damaged or spoiled.
2. In a medium saucepan, combine water and sugar. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely.
3. Add the cranberries to the saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes, or until most of the cranberries have burst.
4. Add ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and orange zest to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
5. Remove the sauce from heat and let it cool to room temperature. It will continue to thicken as it cools.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.

Reheating

Reheat gently on the stovetop over low heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through.
