Traditional Braised Red Cabbage

Ingredients

1 medium red cabbage, shredded
2 large apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
Salt, to taste
Pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add the sliced apples and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
3. Stir in the shredded red cabbage.
4. Add the apple cider vinegar and brown sugar, and stir to combine.
5. Sprinkle in the cinnamon and cloves, and season with salt and pepper.
6. Cover and reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until heated through.
