Traditional Bean Soup

This hearty and satisfying bean soup is a timeless classic, known for its rich flavors and comforting qualities. Made with a simple combination of beans, ham, and vegetables, it's perfect for a cozy dinner or lunch.

Ingredients

1 lb dried navy beans
1 large ham hock or 1 lb ham, diced
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 quarts water
1 carrot, sliced
1 celery stalk, sliced
Salt to taste
Black pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

1. Rinse and sort the navy beans, removing any debris.
2. In a large pot, combine the beans, ham hock, and water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
3. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for approximately 90 minutes or until the beans are tender.
4. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Continue to simmer for another 30 minutes.
5. Remove the ham hock from the soup, trim off meat, and return the meat to the pot. Discard the bone.
6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat gently on the stove over low heat or in the microwave until hot, stirring occasionally.
