Prep time: 30 minutesCook time: 1 hourServes: 8
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp milk
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Stir in water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Divide dough in half, shape into discs, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
4. In another bowl, combine apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, salt, and lemon juice.
5. Roll out one dough disc to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pan and fill with apple mixture, mounding slightly.
6. Roll out second dough disc, place over filling, seal and flute edges, and cut slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
7. Brush the top crust with milk and sprinkle with a little sugar.
8. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
9. Cool before serving.
