Timeless Baked Ziti

Ingredients

1 lb ziti pasta
1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef
1 small onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
24 oz marinara sauce
15 oz ricotta cheese
1 large egg
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
3. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and sauté the onion and garlic until onion is translucent.
4. Add ground beef to the skillet, cooking until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat.
5. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, and oregano into the beef mixture. Simmer for 10 minutes.
6. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, and pepper.
7. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the cooked ziti.
8. Spread the ricotta mixture over the pasta evenly.
9. Pour half of the meat sauce over the ricotta layer.
10. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the sauce.
11. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
12. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
13. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
14. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
