Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon milk (optional, for brushing)
Instructions
1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and honey, stirring until the honey dissolves.
2. Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.
3. Add the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, rolled oats, salt, and olive oil into the yeast mixture.
4. Mix the ingredients together until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
7. Cover the loaf with a towel and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
9. Brush the top of the loaf with milk if desired, and bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
10. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Storage
Store at room temperature in a bread box or airtight container for up to 3 days.
Reheating
For best results, reheat slices in a toaster or oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
