Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Serves: 8

Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
3. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm area until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
5. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
7. Let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.
8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
9. Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Storage

Store the bread at room temperature in a bread box or wrapped in a clean cloth for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze in an airtight bag for up to 3 months.

Reheating

To reheat, wrap the bread in aluminum foil and warm in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes.
