Old-Fashioned Soft Molasses Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/4 cup molasses
1 large egg
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 cup granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
3. Beat in the molasses and egg until well combined.
4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
6. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls and roll each ball in granulated sugar.
7. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
8. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the cookies are set and the tops are cracked.
9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.

Reheating
