Old-Fashioned Apple Dumplings

Old-Fashioned Apple Dumplings are a delightful dessert featuring tender apples wrapped in a flaky pastry, baked to golden perfection with a cinnamon-sugar syrup that enhances their flavor.

Ingredients

2 large Granny Smith apples
2 sheets of puff pastry, thawed
1 cup of granulated sugar
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of unsalted butter
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1 egg, beaten

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Peel and core the apples, cutting them into halves.
3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut each sheet into quarters.
4. Place one apple half in the center of each pastry square.
5. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, butter, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Bring to a boil.
6. Pour the syrup over the apples and pastry.
7. Fold the corners of the pastry over the apples and pinch to seal.
8. Brush the pastry with beaten egg to ensure a golden crust.
9. Place the dumplings in a baking dish and pour remaining syrup over them.
10. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and apples are tender.
11. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.

Storage

Store any leftover apple dumplings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

To reheat, place the dumplings in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes, or until warmed through.
