Hearty Heritage Slow Cooked Pork

Ingredients
3 lbs pork shoulder
2 tbsp olive oil
1 large onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned.
2. Transfer the pork to a slow cooker. Add sliced onion and minced garlic.
3. In a bowl, whisk together chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
4. Pour the liquid mixture over the pork.
5. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is very tender.
6. Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred with two forks.
7. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir to combine with the sauce.
8. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheating
Reheat in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, or microwave in a microwave-safe dish.
