Hearty Braised Brisket

Ingredients

4 lbs beef brisket
2 tbsp olive oil
2 large onions, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup beef broth
1 cup red wine
2 tbsp tomato paste
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp smoked paprika
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
3 bay leaves

Instructions

1. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear the brisket on all sides until browned.
2. Transfer the brisket to the slow cooker.
3. In the same skillet, add onions and garlic, sauté until softened.
4. Add beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, cumin, thyme, salt, and pepper to the onions and bring to a simmer.
5. Pour the mixture over the brisket in the slow cooker.
6. Add bay leaves and cover the slow cooker.
7. Cook on low for 8-10 hours until brisket is tender.
8. Remove bay leaves, slice brisket against the grain, and serve with sauce.

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat slices of brisket in a skillet over medium heat, adding a little broth or water to prevent drying.
