Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
2 cups granulated sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup unsalted butter (for caramel)
1 teaspoon sea salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 inch cake pan.
2. In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
5. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
7. To make the caramel glaze, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, and 1/4 cup butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until smooth and slightly thickened.
8. Poke holes in the warm cake with a skewer and pour the caramel glaze over the top, allowing it to seep in.
9. Sprinkle sea salt over the glaze.
10. Let the cake cool completely before serving.
Storage
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Reheating
Warm individual slices in the microwave for 15-20 seconds for a fresh-out-of-the-oven taste.
