Ingredients

2 cups whole milk
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp molasses
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Whipped cream for topping
Crushed gingerbread cookies for garnish

Instructions

1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk and heavy cream. Stir occasionally until warm.
2. Add the cocoa powder, brown sugar, and molasses to the milk mixture. Whisk until the cocoa and sugar are fully dissolved.
3. Stir in the ground ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Continue to heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
5. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, top with whipped cream, and garnish with crushed gingerbread cookies. Serve immediately.

Storage

Store any leftover hot chocolate in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until hot. Do not boil.
