General Tso's Lemon-Honey Chicken

A citrusy twist on the classic General Tso's Chicken, this Lemon-Honey version combines zesty lemon and sweet honey with crispy chicken for an unforgettable flavor experience.

Ingredients

1 lb boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup water
1 egg
1 lemon, juiced and zested
1/4 cup honey
3 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp ginger, grated
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
2 green onions, sliced
1 tbsp sesame seeds
1/4 cup vegetable oil for frying
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

1. In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, water, and egg to create a batter. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Coat the chicken pieces in the batter and let rest for 10 minutes.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry battered chicken until golden and crispy, about 5 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
4. In a separate pan, combine lemon juice, lemon zest, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Simmer for 3 minutes.
5. Add fried chicken to the sauce, toss to coat.
6. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes until heated through.
