Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 large eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup heavy cream
8 oz semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
Step 2: In a saucepan, melt the butter with water and cocoa powder, stirring until smooth. Let it cool.
Step 3: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
Step 4: Add the cocoa mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined.
Step 5: Beat in eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Step 6: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Step 7: For the frosting, heat heavy cream until simmering, then pour over chocolate chips. Let it sit, then stir until smooth and add powdered sugar.
Step 8: Once the cake is cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
Storage
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
Reheating
Reheat individual slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or enjoy at room temperature.
