Decadent Chocolate Layer Cake

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
4. Stir in boiling water until the batter is well combined.
5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
7. For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well.
8. Divide the frosting in half; add vanilla extract to one half and cocoa powder with heavy cream to the other.
9. On the cooled cakes, spread a layer of chocolate frosting on one cake, then top with the second cake layer.
10. Swirl the vanilla and chocolate frosting on top of the cake, creating a marbled effect.

Storage

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Reheating

To reheat, let the cake sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving.
