Ingredients
2 large green tomatoes
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 large eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1. Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.
3. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and buttermilk.
4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until shimmering.
5. Dip each tomato slice in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and again in the flour mixture, ensuring even coating.
6. Carefully place the coated tomatoes in the hot oil and fry for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
7. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Storage
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Reheating
Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes to restore crispiness.
