Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup unsalted butter
1 cup water
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sour cream
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 18x13-inch sheet pan.
2. In a saucepan, combine 1 cup butter, 1 cup water, and 1/4 cup cocoa powder and bring to a boil.
3. Remove from heat and pour the mixture over 2 cups of flour and 2 cups of sugar in a large bowl; mix well.
4. Add 2 eggs, 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon salt to the bowl; mix until smooth.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared sheet pan and spread evenly.
6. Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. While the cake is baking, prepare the frosting by combining 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, 6 tablespoons milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
8. Remove from heat and whisk in 4 cups powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
9. Pour the frosting over the warm cake and spread evenly.
10. Let the cake cool before serving.
Storage
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to a week.
Reheating
To reheat, warm individual slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
