Classic Shepherd's Pie

A traditional Shepherd's Pie featuring savory lamb and vegetables topped with creamy mashed potatoes. This comforting dish is perfect for family gatherings or a cozy dinner.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 pound ground lamb
2 carrots, diced
1 cup peas
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
4 cups mashed potatoes
2 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup milk

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; sauté until translucent.
3. Add ground lamb to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
4. Stir in carrots and peas, cooking for another 5 minutes.
5. Mix in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes until thickened.
6. Transfer the meat mixture to a baking dish.
7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the meat mixture.
8. Dot the mashed potatoes with butter and drizzle with milk.
9. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Storage

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) until heated through, about 15-20 minutes.
