Classic Oyster Stew

A creamy and savory oyster stew that harks back to traditional coastal recipes, perfect for a hearty and warming meal.

Ingredients

1 pint fresh oysters
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground white pepper
2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 stalk celery, finely chopped

Instructions

1. In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped onion and celery, sauté until soft and translucent.
3. Pour in the whole milk and heavy cream, stirring gently to combine.
4. Add the oysters with their liquor, and season with salt and white pepper.
5. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the edges of the oysters begin to curl.
6. Remove from heat, stir in fresh parsley, and let the stew sit for a minute to enhance the flavors.
7. Serve hot with crusty bread.

Storage

Store leftover oyster stew in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating

Reheat gently over low heat on the stovetop until warmed through, stirring occasionally.
