Classic Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
3/4 cup buttermilk
3/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, warm water, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth and well combined.
4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Reheating

To reheat, warm individual slices in the microwave for 10-15 seconds or until slightly warm.
