Prep time: 30 minutesCook time: 1 hourServes: 8
Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
1/2 cup ice water
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups thinly sliced apples
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3. Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
5. Roll out half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the crust in the pie plate and set aside.
6. In another bowl, combine the apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and flour. Toss to coat the apples thoroughly.
7. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie crust.
8. Roll out the remaining dough and place over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal.
9. Cut several slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
10. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, or until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
11. Let cool before serving.
