Caramel Apple Strudel

This Caramel Apple Strudel is a delightful twist on the classic dessert, featuring layers of flaky pastry filled with spiced apples and a rich caramel sauce, making it a perfect autumn treat.

Ingredients

2 lbs Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup caramel sauce
1 package phyllo dough (16 oz)
1/2 cup melted butter for brushing
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup raisins

Instructions

1: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat and add the sliced apples.
3: Stir in the granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
4: Cook the apples for about 10 minutes until they are tender.
5: Stir in the flour and cook for an additional 2 minutes to thicken the mixture.
6: Remove from heat and let cool slightly, then stir in the caramel sauce, walnuts, and raisins.
7: On a clean surface, lay out one sheet of phyllo dough and brush with melted butter. Layer another sheet on top, repeating the process until you have a stack of 5 sheets.
8: Spoon a portion of the apple mixture along one edge of the phyllo dough, then carefully roll it up into a log, tucking in the edges.
9: Place strudel seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
10: Repeat with remaining phyllo and filling until all is used.
11: Brush the tops of the strudels with more melted butter.
12: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
13: Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Storage

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.

Reheating

Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.
